I don't like the fact that parents think they should vote on a club at school. The Gay - Straight Alliance brings together gay and straight students to help them understand each other. PARENTS DON'T GO TO HIGH SCHOOL and if you don't like the fact that it's in Niagara Wheatfield, home school your children. It prepares them for the REAL WORLD. Gay people will be everywhere they go. I think this parent along with many others are homophobic and need to get over themselves. I am outraged that they say "two males students kissing" in the article. YOU ACT LIKE THEY WERE COMMITTING A CRIME!! They were kissing, THAT'S IT! Why don't you worry about taking care of the bullying and the illegal drugs being sold in our school. People don't choose to be gay because no one chooses to have to deal with people like this specific parent and many individuals who pretty much are discriminating against us. It's just like being racist. Do you see us saying "Ew look at those straight people, I don't want people to be exposed to that" NO WE DON'T. So leave us alone and worry about yourselves. I think I speak for many gay students when I say "WE WOULDN'T CHANGE FOR YOU OR ANYONE ELSE ON THIS EARTH!"

ReplyDeleteAt least take heart that most of the comments on the article were supportive. There will always be intolerance, but hopefully over time most people will come to realize that the world can accommodate all kinds of lifestyles, and teach their kids to respect and accept others for who they are. I think it is moving in the right direction, but sometimes too slowly. Think about the battles that women and minorities fought (and still fight) for simple equality. It takes generations sometimes for ideas to change. Even my kids face constant teasing at school for something as minor as being vegetarian. I just tell them to surround themselves with people who like them for who they are and forget about everyone else. :-)
